Mars in our natal birth chart symbolises drive and action, and our Mars lines can show us places to supercharge our decisiveness!
Mars is not at all concerned with thinking or feeling. Mars simply want to get things done. It is not too concerned with how we do either!
Which is why Mars in a natal birth chart, is really not comfortable in a water sign, for water represents emotion. Someone with their natal Mars in a water sign will really need to feel emotionally connected to something before being able to take action on it.
Or else they will need someone in their lives with a strong Mars who can help them take action – often a parent or teacher will fulfil that role.
Mars rules Aries, the first sign of the zodiac. And, in the coming years, we have several planets moving into Aries, which indicates fiery times ahead for the collective.
Jupiter moves into Aries in 2023, then Saturn moves into Aries from 2025 until 2028 and Neptune moves into Aries from 2025 to 2039.
We can therefore expect a clash between the Aries energy of “me and mine” versus the collective Pluto in Aquarius energy of “all of us” in the coming years. Those of us with a strong natal Mars may feel more triggered than most!
The challenge of Mars
If Mars has challenging aspects in your natal chart, such as a square to Saturn or your Moon, then moving to a moderately strong Mars line will actually help activate your Mars more.
Your natal Mars squaring your natal Moon may play out with you finding yourself always provoking arguments around the home, or an edgy feeling of discontent around your emotions.
A natal Mars squaring Saturn has a real “workhorse” aspect, but over time that can also play out with you feeling you are never quite finished with anything, or having to redo things over and over again.
Switch up pace on Mars line
Moving to a Mars line can help you simply move or work faster, and that may actually be all you need to do for now. If you move to a part of the world where Mars in your relocated chart moves from your fourth house – of home and roots – to your first house – your sense of self – then you will have a stronger sense of self and be more warrior like in how you get things done.
There will be a greater sense of being able to take decisive action easily, without too much to-ing and fro-ing in your own mind beforehand.
However, in astrocartography, caution is also advised with Mars lines, as spending too much time on, or near a strong Mars line can lead to an underlying feeling or irritation. We may find we attract aggressive situations into our lives in those places.
To combat that, the best thing to do is to engage in Mars activities – such as strenuous cycling, lifting weights in the gym, or rigorous exercise in some other form.
If we are living in an area where Mars in squaring our Ascendant, we may find that we have to work harder to be seen in the new area, as a square indicates having to take decisive action.
If we are living somewhere where Mars is quintiling our Midheaven, then there will be a subtle external push to take action around manifesting our creativity, as the Midheaven indicates what our higher calling is.
A quintile is an external minor aspect with a radius of 34 miles, which symbolises an external creative urge.
In our new location, we may find ourselves inspired to take the Mars action of signing up for a new course. Unexpectedly, without giving it too much thought. Which is often how the best decisions are actually made!
Time spent on a Mars line can really make you focus with great intent on getting things done. It can give you help to be more decisive at a time when that matters in your life.
I find that clients frequently move on from Mars lines, as too much time spent on them can in the end, cause burnout. There are times to be clear-cut and forceful, and times when that is less helpful, after all.
In which case, it is time to maybe try a different planetary line to explore other aspects of your true purpose!
