Pluto was the God of the Underworld. Where Pluto is in our astrology chart is where we need to learn to transform several times in our lifetime. Whether we want to or not!
Pluto insists that transformation in your life is unavoidable. But Pluto’s story of transformation is more rooted in love and connection than you might think. As we’ll see, transformation may involve loss of the most profound kinds in our lives, but it also – in its truest forms – involves a radical commitment to love and connection.
The myth of Pluto and Ceres
The myth of Pluto and Ceres is well known. Persephone was Ceres’ daughter and was abducted by Pluto. Ceres, the Roman and Greek Goddess of the harvest, was lost without her beloved daughter and cast blight on the earth. She eventually learnt that Pluto had abducted her and sent Jupiter down to Pluto to renegotiate Persephone’s release.
Pluto agreed to let Ceres have Persephone for half the year, while he had her for the other half. Their arrangement is why we now have four seasons – spring, summer, autumn, and winter. Transformations we often welcome and mourn in equal measure!
Where Ceres is in our astrological chart, is where we most nurture. It is a strong placement in my own chart, as it opposes Pluto. It thereby symbolises the constant separation between mother and daughter, a separation which manifested in my life, not just with my own mother, but also my own daughter.
Submitting utterly to love
The most important thing to remember is that, despite the separation we may experience, during life and even after death, the love itself in that precious bond never dies. How beautiful, how healing!
Love indeed never dies. Often times, a separation can actually make the love stronger. For then, love is actually all there is.
Pluto demands nothing less than that we submit utterly to love. As we know that indeed we must. But we often resist. Along comes Pluto. Resistance is futile!
Transformation as an act of love
Where we most need to transform is where we then become most alive. When we transform towards our authentic self – that self our natal birth chart ordains for us – we are taking part in a radical act of love towards ourselves, investing in becoming our truest selves and the version of ourselves we hold most closely in our hearts.
