Where you find the Sun in your natal birth chart, is where you shine. It is where you are your effortless self.
Are you ready for a little Sun in your life?
If the Sun is in your fourth house, you may work from home. Your eighth house, you may find you’re always in a long term relationship! In other words, a serial monogamist!
But moving to a new location will often change the house your Sun is in and open up a whole new way of being.
You may be longing for a heightened career, so moving to somewhere where your Sun is in your 10th house (vocation) or 11th house ( the collective) will help. For me, that’s practically the North Pole!! I have always been drawn to Tromso in Norway and will, for sure, make it there some day.
Sun lines in astrocartography
How can we best understand the significance of Sun lines in actual astrocartography?
There is a lot written claiming that moving to a Sun line will really make you shine. But it really does depends on how that Sun line is aspected. If the Sun is trining your Mid heaven, then you will indeed start to shine more brightly in your vocation.
If, however, it is a square to your Mid heaven, then there is more of a challenge involved. A square represents effort, yet that effort is often what brings the most profound results. A trine can be too easy sometimes, as there is usually no effort involved.
If you are going through other challenging transits, you may simply not have the energy to feel like shining, no matter where you are in the world. Which may mean taking highly focused action and working on increasing your physical energy instead. That can usually be done by vigorously activating Mars in your chart for a while.
A conjunction – say from your Sun to your Descendant – means that you will attract others into your life who will help you to shine. Or a conjunction from your Sun to your Ascendant means that you will shine – more so if the Sun is in your first house than your more hidden twelfth house. Which is why we always need to look at the relocated chart as well.
Paul McCartney, for example, was within range of his Sun line – which conjuncts his Mid heaven – in Liverpool, where he was born and where the Beatles originated. But move him to London, and he is far closer to this line. He is also within range of this line in Paris and several other European cities.
It has been fascinating to research how many well-known artists were actually born with their natal Sun originally in their twelfth house – Leonard Cohen (Virgo Sun), George Michael (Cancer Sun), Madonna (Leo Sun), David Bowie (Capricorn Sun). These three upped and left their place of birth while quite young, travelling extensively to build their careers and no one can say that having 12th house Suns stopped these four from shining brightly!
We can also say the same of Hillary Clinton (Scorpio Sun) and Joe Biden (another Scorpio Sun).
Move to where you can shine
So, why not move to where you can shine in the way that matters most to you and make life easier for yourself? Even for a few short weeks will make an enormous difference.
I recently spent two weeks in Portugal where my natal 12th house Sun moved to my first house and, yes, I definitely felt much more seen as an astrologer. When I worked in tourism, I was always a “behind the scenes” type of person, even as a sales manager – having our natal Sun in the 12th house can play out as being a hidden leader, someone others turn to for advice and guidance.
Of course, it is natural and normal that we will at some stage want to shine for who we are, not simply on behalf of the role others wish us to play.
