Our Moon lines represent so much in both in astrocartography and in our relocated charts.
In traditional astrology, the Moon was always traditionally associated with the mother and home. In recent years, Ceres has also been seen to symbolise mother and home.
Meanwhile, the Moon has taken on a much greater role in our understanding of our inner emotional compass. The moon, then, helps us to explain how we nurture others, how we wish to have our own emotional needs met, and how we nurture ourselves.
Do you need to be near a strong Moon line?
This does not necessarily mean that we need to be close to a strong Moon line to feel at home. While deciding whether to relocate or not, we can do a lot to make our current environment more homely – Karen Kingston’s book “Clear your Clutter with Feng Shui” is one of my many bibles.
Living a clutter-free life is calming and that in turn assists us in skyrocketing our way to live a life greater than anything we ever imagined possible. So, before you jump to relocate to a Moon line, make sure you have made where you currently live as homely as possible. Yes, even if it is just a week in a hotel room, just remove yourself from the space you are in now to rethink!
Unpack fully, rearrange the furniture to support you more, bring some inspiring photos of your future life and blue tac them on the wall… It all helps, more than you might realise!
The moon in a relocated chart
The Moon, like the planets, will likely change houses in your relocated chart. Remember that the Moon, is also very closely linked to what your true vocation is – the house, sign and element your Moon falls in tells us so much about what your purpose and role can be. Which is often so different than the career our parents may have wanted for us.
The environment and society we grow up in conditions us far more than we are often willing to admit. Some of us have an inner knowing from a young age that where we live does not support us, but societal expectations can keep us stuck in a place which does not support us for years or worse still, decades longer than necessary. And the same can be true of the roles we take on.
Ireland was a place that supported me greatly in my younger years. My Sagittarian Descendant and angular Moon conjunct Mercury on my Ascendant ensured that, for over 25 years, I thrived in the ever changing tourism industry.
However, I have only a minor Moon line in Ireland – off the West and South West coast. So there was never any real sense of belonging in Dublin, where I was born, grew up and lived for almost 40 years.
Even as a teenager, I would gravitate towards the West of Ireland on cycling holidays with the cycling club which was such a large part of my life. Along with West Cork, Connemara and north Mayo also inspire a sense of home in me, but there is effort involved in those places. West Cork wins out time and time again because of my highly accentuated Mercury and Pluto lines!
Sometimes truly feeling at home where we currently live may actually be all we need in order to then venture forth and become the person we were always meant to be.
In a relocated chart, the Moon may move from our natal seventh house, where our focus may have been on gaining emotional fulfilment through our one- to-one relationships, to our tenth house, where our emotional fulfilment is through our vocation out in the world. Emotional fulfilment in two totally different areas of our lives.
Someone with a natal seventh house Moon placement may have loved to gain deep emotional fulfilment from one-to-one relationships, and it may be a transit to their natal Moon which then propels them to seek emotional nourishment at a more expanded level
Moon lines in astrocartography
In astrocartography, the aspect your Moon lines makes to either your Ascendant, Descendant, Midheaven or IC (home and roots) is where we get the clues as to how the Moon energy will play out.
If your Moon line is forming a square to your IC, then you will indeed feel at home, but there will be far more effort involved than if it was a trine to your IC, which indicates flowing highly supportive energy.
If your Moon line is forming a quintile to your Descendant, then you will invoke and attract an external feeling of wanting to manifest and enhance creativity.
As always, different planetary lines have a different radius and sphere of influence – a trine (indicating flow and receptivity) has a radius of 138 miles, a novile (indicating magic) has a range of 34 miles, a tri septile (indicating connection) has a range of 17 miles. Which is why the minor aspects play such a key role in astrocartography.
