What does Uranus Retrograde mean for us as we set out into 2021?
“If we winter this one out, we can summer anywhere” So wrote Seamus Heaney all those years ago. He was probably the most quoted poet of the early days of the pandemic. But as we now know, summering anywhere was not to be. And last night at the Democratic Convention in the USA, Joe Biden was once again quoting Seamus Heaney from his play “The Cure at Troy – a version of Sophocles’ Philoctetes” –
“History says – don’t hope on this side of the grave.
But then, once in a lifetime,
the longed for tidal wave of justice can rise up,
and hope and history rhyme”
Biden spoke movingly about how “love and hope and light join in the battle for the soul of the nation” as Uranus, which had just turned retrograde a few days earlier, was sextiling Venus. It was interestingly enough, quite an un-aspected Uranus yesterday. Tomorrow, Uranus trines Mercury so, in the collective, we will see a deeper, more inward clarity of thought and communication. Uranus then opposes the Moon on Sunday and Monday, hence we will see an desire to balance out our inner emotions versus what is best for the collective.
Uranus represents genius, innovation, radical thinking, flash fire genius. Where Uranus lies in our astrological chart is where we are most ourselves. Biden himself is extremely Uranian, as Uranus opposes his Sun and Venus, and also semi-sextiles his Moon, and conjuncts his Saturn.
Uranus retrograde means a time of reflection
When Uranus is retrograde it is a time for internal reflection on what we value most in the collective. Internal reflection on what we need to do to become our radical authentic self. Like never before. This November, Americans will be voting as if their lives depended on it.
Because this time, it does.
Uranus will be retrograde until 14th January 2021. And with the titanic energy of the Pluto Jupiter Saturn conjunction of this year continuing to build, it is anyone’s guess what will happen next.
There were flash fires throughout California just as Uranus went retrograde. Ditto for the standoff over the USPS postal service and Trump’s attempt to suppress postal voting. And we experienced three ferocious days of thunderstorms with Storm Ellen here in Ireland.
All this upheaval is not entirely unexpected. So I would urge you to reflect deeply in these coming months – where do you most feel your true liberated self? Why? How can you harness that more? Where and how can you help the collective?
I continue to offer consultations via ZOOM, so for a session with me book HERE.
There are videos on my Facebook page where I discuss the recent New Moon and go into more detail about the energies of Uranus Retrograde. I have also posted Joe Biden’s chart. Click HERE

Much love to you all from after Storm Ellen. And do go read some Seamus Heaney – he is so soothing for the soul!
