I loved my time as an astrologer and astrocartographer stateside exploring my own and others’ US planetary lines!
My natal chart is challenging enough as I have the Sun, Mercury and Venus in my 12th house. But when I relocated to the USA – to Boston, Cape Cod and then California and Portland Oregon, my relocated chart changed.
My relocated chart in the US
In my relocated chart for Cape Cod, these planets quietly slipped to my IC – latin for Imum Coeli which means home and roots. My Moon in Gemini joined them. Hence, yes, I felt so quietly and effortlessly at home there.
In my Astrocartography map for Cape Cod, the Moon planetary line quietly quintiled my IC, hence I experienced a creative sense of once again feeling at home. My Mars planetary line continued to trine my Midheaven, as that line was just outside of Boston, and so I was still well within its range.
In California, I was right on my Jupiter planetary line and so my business expanded effortlessly. When I fully relocated to Portland, Oregon, I was within range of several strong Mercury planetary lines.
US planetary lines for your birth and current locations
For those of you in the USA, your planetary lines where you were born and where you are now living will be different if you have changed location. As will your relocated chart. If you were born in New York, but now live in Los Angeles, these are two very different charts. Or if you live in North Carolina, but were born in Oregon, you will again two very different charts.
Latitute and longitude mean that if you move north or south of where you were born, your planetary lines may not change much. So, there won’t be a whole lot of difference in your relocated chart between New York and Philadelphia for example. But if you move east or west, then major changes will occur in your relocated chart. The purpose of a relocated chart is to tell you where the planetary energy is now being focused.
However, your astrocartography lines may still have subtle yet powerful differences between say Philadelphia and New York. My Moon planetary line on Cape Cod helped tone down the power of my Mars planetary line. This is why I work with relocated charts as well as the actual astrocartography maps.
Most of the free astrology software out there does not cover aspects to either your descendant – which is your “other” self, or your IC (Imum Coeli – home and roots). These areas of a chart are crucial if you are seeking a deeper sense of home.
Finding your dream location
The USA is a big place, and there is nothing I love more than helping my clients find their dream locations. Some planetary lines, such as trines and oppositions, have a radius of 137 miles. The minor aspects such as quintiles, septiles have smaller ranges of 34 miles. The minor aspects play a huge part in astrocartography, and again, are not listed on the free websites.
So, if you are looking for home – your Moon planetary line is key. If you are looking for enhanced communication, look to your Mercury line. To live the ultimate dream, look to your Neptune planetary line. And I then in my astrocartography consultations almost always bring in the meaning of the minor lines. A quintile is an internal manifesting of creativity. A novile which has a range of 34 miles, indicates magic. How these lines form an aspect to the four axes of your natal birth chart – your Ascendant, your Midheaven, your Descendant and your IC, is what puts it all together.
So, you can move to a flowing or a challenging Moon planetary line and the energy will be different. A square to your Moon means there is effort involved, while a trine to your Moon means it will flow easily! Very often a client thinks they are moving for one reason – such as to enhance their career, but they are really moving for a different reason – such as to live a more spiritual life. Their current transits will show this, which is why a transit reading is such an integral part of my astrocartography package.
