In astrology, we are all familiar with squares, which are planets three signs apart and which indicate tension.
Trines then are planets four signs apart and symbolize a highly powerful flow between planets. Or oppositions – as the word suggests, planets which oppose each other and which symbolize a constant “push pull” and a constant need to balance two very conflicting energies. Often necessary, even if we may resist this. It is in doing the work, that the transformation takes place.
Much of the free astrocartography software out there does a great disservice to astrology as it frequently omits to mention that these planetary lines all have a certain radius of influence. For example, a trine has a radius of 137 miles, as does a conjunction.
The minor aspects play a vital and often overlooked role in astrocartography, particularly in the area of enhancing our creativity. Noviles, octiles, septiles and qunitiles really come into their own here.
Septiles and quintiles in particular can give gentle underlying support to an unconscious longing for a more creatively supportive life.
A septile has a radius of 34 miles and in astrocartography indicates a quietly internal seeking of conscious choice. A septile also indicates our spirituality, our divine inspiration, an interest in religion of all kinds, and our more internal artistic drive.
A quintile also has a radius of 34 miles and in astrocartography indicates a more external longing to manifest our creativity. It indicates a more purposeful manifestation of our artistic talent and mental creativity.
A novile also has a radius of 34 miles and indicates where the magic in our lives happens.
An octile has a range of 51 miles and indicates tolerance.
And that is before we look at triundeciles, bi septiles, quadri noviles, or quinque undeciles! Again, though they are all minor aspects, they are hugely important.
If we are in an area that may not be hugely supportive of where we want to be in our lives right now, the minor aspects can give quiet additional support in a way we may not even be aware of. A quiet soft quintile to Venus might be just what we need to gently embrace our creativity.
A novile to our Midheaven from Mercury might indeed bring magic into how we communicate and write. A radius of 34 miles for a novile can be highly significant, for we might only need to travel down the road from where we usually live to experience it.
What is also not often known about planetary lines, is that the energy west of a planetary line is more yin, whereas the energy east of a planetary line is more yin. Again, a small but hugely significant feature of planetary lines.
I have had several minor aspects play out very significantly while in Sardinia – a bi undecile to my IC from my Moon – signifying insight and discipline, and Juno, asteroid of love and marriage forming a magical quintile – genius and creativity to my IC (home and roots). And yes, I do feel deeply at home here.
